A day trip at MORNINGTON..

Mornington. Another trip planned up after Hampton beach on the very next day. This trip was another exciting yet tiring trip. Due to the soccer match between Manchester United and Liverpool, most of us was only able to catch 2 hours of sleep before the trip. Below is the map showing on the Point Nepean National Park which was at Mornington. Our destination for the day.

Waking up at around 5.57am, Boon Hong and I only manage to brush our teeth and wash our face before meeting up with the others. Well, Weng and Caroline was late and because of that we were all manage to get some breakfast before boarding the next train.

After around 1 hour of train ride plus 1 hour of bus ride, we manage to reach our destination. The national park. The whole journey was surprisingly quiet as we were all still tired from our Hampton trip. Luckily it was a long journey, as some of us were able to catch some sleep.

Posing in front of the National Park. We were just too happy to be able to arrive there.

The entrance fees for the each of us was 16 dollar. Ride was included to fetch us around too. The park was quite a big place and the whole journey along the park is 6 kilometers excluding the various points of tourist attraction. Basically it was divided into 4 main points.

Point 1: Walter Pisterman Heritage Walk
Here, we have picnic area with tables. From here, we can see the Port Phillips Heads from the water edge. And there is also a cattle quarantine jetty built in 1879. There is also a beach around there but all water activities is prohibited.

However, we all have decided to go to point 4 first as it was the furthest point. By that, we will be able to take the tractor there and visit the other points as we walk back.

One of the magnificent scene as we were on our way to point 4: Fort Nepean Walk

Another scene. If we look carefully at the above picture, we will be able to see a small lookout point built long ago by the military beside the sea.

Along the park, there are some area which is restricted to us. The sign beside shows that there are unexploded bombs lying around the park. Jolyn posing beside the sign looked afraid of the bombs.

Group picture by the seaside. Sad. We can't go to the beach around point 4 as it was too dangerous.

Point 4: Fort Nepean Walk
We were all inside the fort now. This area was once stored with rifles and magazines.

Walking down to the lower level or known as the basement. Fort Nepean was a vital part of Victoria's defences for more than 60 years. It was used for world war 1 and well as world war 2.

Tunnel to another storage for magazines.

Passage in the fort. It is unbelieveable that this passage was being used in war long ago.

The Bomb Proof Room. It was said that this room was used to protect VIPs back in the war period.

I was in one of the bunker looking out for 'enemies'.

Another Gun Emplacement in the fort. There are total of 8 gun emplacement in the park.

The tunnel to one of the disappearing gun. It was call the disappearing gun because the gun only appear when enemies were sighted during the war.

Leftover bomb shells. Along our walk, we were all on the lookout along the restricted area for bombs. We knew that we were being naive.

I was on one of the observatory post in the fort. From the rooftop, I can see a the whole fort. Sad that i forgot to take some pictures from there.

Walking along the Coles track to Point 2: Cheviot Hill Discover Walk. The walk along the Coles track was adventurous. Small forest and there was steep tracks along the track.

It seem as though as we skip point 3:Fort Pearce and Eagles Nest Heritage Trail.
There was nothing much at point 3. We did go pass that point. We saw the largest disappearing gun at Eagle's Nest. There was nothing much bout that point.

Point 2
The scene here was the best. We were at 54 metres above the sea evel enjoying the scence. From here, we were able to see the whole park clearly.
The picture on the right is the scene behind out group picture on the left.
Besides that, Cheviot beach is the place where vessel Cheviot wrecked in 1887 and the former prime minister of Australia, Harold Holt disappeared in 1967. All this can be viewed from the summit(At our group picture).
As first we thought the former prime minister, Harold Holt disappeared mysteriously and we might even able to get some valuable information from him or a treasure map if we found his body. However, he was lost while playing at the Cheviot beach with his friends. =.=

Point 2 was out last destination before we took a break for our next destination.

2nd destination is the Peninsula Hot Spring
From the picture on the left, we were all enjoying the public and open air hot spring. Since it is a public hot spring, there are a lot of skin in the water left by others. It was gross but it will eventually flow out of it.

There are altogether 8 hot spring here. There are also private hot spring which we will need to book it earlier. As normal teenagers, public hot spring is enough for us.

The staircase lead to other hot springs. Besides the stair, there is a small hot spring on the right side.

Another one. We have been waiting to get into this one for quite sometime. Luckily we manage to get into if before we left.

It was very relaxing in the hot tub.

Our trip ends as we reach Melbourne city at around 11pm at night. The one day trip at Mornington was indeed and eye opening trip. According the Jolyn Hokkaido has better hot spring than this. That will be somewhere I should go in future.
